All sorts of relationship configurations work so long as they have what I refer as the 3 pillars for ongoing happy, enlightened relationships:

1. non-conditional love
2. nonjudgmental acceptance
3. open communication

Even a rare occurrence where both individuals in a monogamous relationship have the same vasopressin and oxytocin receptors making them more inclined to monogamy, so long as they have those 3 prerequisites, can be satisfying and fulfilling.

Nonjudgmental acceptance is the total acceptance of the person without toleration. Toleration is the arrogance of ‘allowing’ something to be despite their dislike or disdain. For example, I’m the most accepting person you’ll ever meet, therefore I’m also the least tolerating because I’ll either accept you or not engage. It’s quite elegant and simple and easygoing.

Open communication is the facilitation of the openness of communication without any party’s fear of psychological punishment or emotional blackmail.

These 3 I hold as prerequisites and foundational!
